Earth Friendly Threads
It’s a constant goal of mine, to regularly assess and evaluate my making and business decisions, in the pursuit of being as eco friendly as I can be at that moment in time.
Today is a big day for my eco journey as I’ve switched a huge chunk of my making from 100% cotton threads to 100% environmentally friendly threads… and I’m so excited about it! It’s been one of my targets to phase out my old 100% cotton threads. I spent some time researching and looking for more sustainable alternatives, to ensure that my making and goods are as green as can be. Finally, I’ve found some eco friendly alternatives that I’m beginning to introduce into my goods. I don’t know if I’m getting old but when my packages of eco threads arrived I was like a kid on Christmas day! ^_^
100% Recycled plastic bottles
These are the bees knees. They’re made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. How amazing is that. Just one plastic bottle can be transformed into around 1,000m of thread. Thats a lot of sewing. The raw materials are broken down sustainably to create this eco thread, meaning less energy is needed to manufacture the raw fibres, and it reduces CO2 emissions. The reels are also 100% recyclable.
100% Organic Cotton
I’ve upgraded my standard cotton to 100% organic cotton. These lovely threads meet the highest standards set by GOTS (The Global Organic Textile Standard) who verify the organic status. The manufacturing processes have been certified to ensure that the harvesting of the raw materials are environmentally and socially responsible in order to provide credible assurance. Organic cotton is grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Naturally dyed, just like my Plant Dyed Range. 100% organic + 100% natural!
Not only are these threads 100% eco but they sew like a dream! I’ll use them for stitching all my in house made goods and any machine embroidered personalisation. I hope you love the new qualities as much as I do.
